While searching for one, here are a few tap dance steps that you probably want to know:
Ball-change
Ball-change is the most common taught step to shift your weight from one foot to another. To perfect this step, you can start by standing with your feet side by side but not touching, and lift your heels so that only your the balls of your feet are in contact with the floor. Then, place your right foot t behind you, and rock back onto the ball of it. As you do it, make sure that your left foot should completely leave the floor for a moment. Now, switch feet and follow the process.
Step-heel and heel-step
These two steps are the opposite of one another, and, they make a distinct sound when you perform them in a pair of tap shoes. To to the step-heel and heel-step, you have to place one foot in front of the other and bring the heel of your foot down first. Then, bring the ball of your foot down and repeat with the opposite foot. Continue until you’ve moved forward several feet. The step is just the reverse, so the ball of your foot should come down before your heel.
Shuffle
This step is a combination of two moves- the brush and the strike. If you want to shuffle, stand on one leg and bend the other, lifting your foot off the ground. Then, turn both feet out without allowing your raised foot touch the ground. Now, perform a brush by swinging the foot forward. As it moves to your standing foot, point it slightly so the ball quickly brushes against the floor. Make sure that your heel doesn’t touch the floor. Next, you can do it with a strike. Follow the same movement in reverse; swing your foot backward instead of forwards.
If you want your child to become a professional tap dancer, look for a New York dance studio and get them trained by highly tap dance professionals.
