All You Need To Know About Pointe Dance Technique

Going en pointe traditionally is a technique for women however both men and women can attend pointe dance classes in NYC. It is a technique in which the dancer stands on the top of their toes in specially designed shoes. These particular shoes are much harder than ballet shoes. Most of the pointe shoes have a resin based material in the toe section which is hardened, but some of the modern shoes are made of much more durable products. They are all designed to support the full weight of the dancer.

The effect of this dance is simply beautiful, the essence of grace and poise. When you search for ‘ballet dancer’ on the internet, you will see most shots of dancers en pointe. As the dancers progress they are able to do more advanced steps and balances en pointe and eventually complex turns including fouettés.

Are you ready to go en pointe?

The experience of ballet is essential. All the people need to be able to do all the steps on demi pointe before they can go into full pointe. Your teacher can advise you very well if you are someone who is keen to learn. It is recommended to complete at least one full Ballet Beginners course before trying pointe. It is also recommended to continue your ballet classes while you train in pointe in order to expand your knowledge, skill, and vocabulary, especially if ballet is still new to you.

Confidence and strength are key for this dance. The dancer need to be able to support yourself en pointe, they need strong feet and ankles. To be specific, the small group of muscles in the ball of your feet alongside your metatarsus bones. The key idea is that the dancer can rise in demi pointe and then use the strength in your feet, ankles and toes to pull them up on to full pointe, balancing your toes inside the shoe.

Do not despair if you are not ready. Progressing in ballet takes some time so you need to be patient with yourself. It is always better to ensure that you are fully ready to prevent any injuries.
